  • Season Preview

After running up a 27-5 record last season, Mount Mercy (Iowa) was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the A.I.I. for Division II men's basketball.

The Mustangs, who will also play host to the championship tournament for both the men and the women, are new to the A.I.I. this year and are coming off a regular season and postseason Midwest Collegiate Conference championship. The team rode the momentum to a first round victory over Cal Maritime in the NAIA Championship tournament and ultimately finished the year ranked 10th in the nation.

Northern New Mexico, last season's A.I.I. runner-up, was picked second after posting a 20-11 record in 2014-15, and College of the Ozarks (Mo.), which is coming off a runner-up finish of its own in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, will be looking to rebound from an opening round loss in the NAIA tournament.

Rochester (Mich.), Central Christian (Kan.) and Fisher (Mass.) round out the top six.
